National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Did you know that September 11 – 16, 2016 is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week?

On behalf of all of us at Radius Logistics, we would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of the hard working men and women that deliver our goods and keep our economy going.  Their hard work, professionalism and commitment to safety is what truly drives the  industry.

It’s often forgotten in day to day business just how important our truck drivers are.  These professional drivers are the heart of the logistics industry. They are on the the front line of the supply chain  and the face that many customers see every day.  When we pass them on the road and while we are in our cars, they are in their offices.

This is no easy task. There are over 3.75 million professional truck drivers in North America, logging over 432 billion miles driven per year to deliver the products that we consume everyday.  Most individual long haul drivers average 100,000 to 110,000 miles of driving per year, regional and city drivers average 48,000 miles per year. Our truck drivers carry a heavy responsibility in keeping businesses running throughout North America, as over 90 percent of all consumer goods in Canada and over 70 percent in the US are delivered by truck.  Furthermore, over 80 percent of the communities in the US rely solely on freight transportation for the delivery of all goods.

A recent infographic from uShip did a really good job at illustrating the vital importance of our truck drivers.

The responsibilities of professional truck drivers in America are extensive, and we would like to acknowledge the hard work these men and women do every day. Next time you pass a truck on the road show your appreciation by waving to the driver, not just this week but every week.
